How the story began...
ApparelXchange CIC was established in 2018 by our Founding Director Izzie Eriksen, a mother of two, who was experiencing first hand the huge volume of clothing waste generated just from school uniform.
This inspired her to setup ApparelXchange, which combines knowledge sharing with enabling people to take responsibility and action for the clothing they use.
The vision is to create and integrate a sustainable clothing system for young people, while tackling child poverty in every community.

Social Enterprise with a mission
Our mission is to reduce the impact of clothing on our planet by providing sustainable clothing services and influencing consumer behaviour through knowledge and empowerment.
We hope to disrupt traditional retail formats by showing that preloved items can benefit both the planet and your pocket, and that sustainable fashion can be an option for everyone.

How we work
We use unwanted clothing and footwear donations as a valuable resource. Nothing should go to waste.
Donations are quality-checked, cleaned and prepared for resale in our brick and mortar shop and our online store.
Families can then shop preloved with us and can also receive free clothing when times are challenging.
Schools can also get support, share education opportunities with us and grow greener alongside us.

Social Mission
As part of our social mission, we create employment opportunities, support families in need by providing clothing packages and work strategically to influence the clothing sector’s inequalities in the UK.
We are a real living wage employer, provide long term opportunities for those who are unemployed and support personal skills development through our volunteering programme.
Our Clothing and Footwear Package Service is subsidised using public and private funding. We also use our own resources to cover the costs of the preparing and distributing the packages.
We also aim to educate and influence policy makers and consumers about consumerism and the socio-economic challenges linked to the fashion industry. Through raising awareness, we want to empower everyone to make a difference.
