It's the last week of our Southside shop. I would be lying if I didn’t say that I don't have some mixed feelings about closing.
It has been a brilliant three and half years. From the beginning, we've had a great landlord; I would probably say one in a million and he was open to renting to us and was supportive throughout our tenancy.
We have really enjoyed creating a unique space which was designed for the kids to enjoy preloved fashion. We have had loads of amazing feedback from kids about loving the shop and from parents and carers too, who have said it has made the whole shopping experience for clothing so much easier.
We have run all sorts of workshops and events, which have been nothing short of varied and it has been great fun doing so. They have ranged from sewing repair skills to swaps, upcycling, terrariums, clay making, whinge and wines and life drawing. It has been a joy working with partners like Swap Club Glasgow, Abi Black and of course all the wonderful members of the Fair Fashion Collective to make these happen.
We have had 2 concessions - Fox Botanics and Second Cashmere, sharing our retail space with these fabulous local companies has offered more to our local community.
We have met YOU, our lovely customers. Getting to know you, making new friends, chatting kids, sharing parenting woes, talking fashion, talking politics and having a laugh (at the politics mainly)..
We have got better at retailing, merchandising, leaning into our USP and why you shop with us... but all good things come to an end.
The shop's location has always been a little off the well trodden path and so not the most convenient for busy families. Plus we are fully aware of the rise in other re-commerce sites which offer more choices while waiting outside karate!
Having said all of this, the energy and love put into the place has been immense and we can’t undervalue our journey, brand awareness and great impacts we have had. But we are also ready to pivot and we are heading back to our Warehouse Wardrobe, where the location and choice makes it even easier to shop secondhand for your kids and bring them along for the journey of individual style and being sustainable.
So, please follow us up there, it's only a 5 minute walk from Central Station or if you can't make it along, do keep shopping online. We have a new Southside click and collect location too at Seamster Vintage - more information to come on that one soon.
And don’t forget our shop closing party (at the shop!), 6-8 pm Friday 27th March!
